John O’Callaghan is amazing as James Joyce. We see who this character was, a tortured creative, who was not always the epitome of vitue, yet still manages to win our hearts. We feel James Joyce had true love for his lover and partner Nora Barnacle. Lisa Dobbyn plays a deeply moving role as Nora Barnacle, James’ partner in crime, muse and rock as she holds the family together amidst he husband’s infidelity, alcoholism and inability to maintain a steady living. Through all of that, we are still rooting for both of them as James slowly gains the recognition he deserves. An interesting look into the creative mind and what the other side has to deal with.
What I didn't like
Nora Connolly pens a moving tale of a loving partnership that almost didn’t make it. Funny, serious and deeply moving. Ronan Wilmot directs a powerful tale of drama, humor and the journey of overcoming the odds! Recommended!
My overall impression
An interesting and humourous tale about an iconic writer, his wife and their struggles in the early 20th century, trying to navigate creativity, love, family and surival in a war torn Europe.
