The Anti Yogi is a beautiful, heartfelt, powerful, at times hilarious takedown of Western appropriation of yoga. Mayuri Bhandari is a brilliant delight — and even though I am not from her culture, I related a lot to her love of her roots and her frustration with the commodification and whitewashing of those same roots. Beautiful work. Highly recommend!... full review

I thoroughly enjoyed the performance for its outstanding humor, dancing, and acting, which held my attention throughout the entire show. However, I found the message, particularly its approach, somewhat problematic and borderline proselytizing. While I understand the critique of those who adopt cultural symbols like the turban for fashion, such as guru Jagat, I felt that the generalization and vilification, especially during the zoom scene, came across as mean-spirited. Moreover, I left the theater pondering whether individuals less familiar with Hindu or Jain backgrounds could still appreciate yoga without feeling excluded by the puritanical delivery of the message. It raised broader questions for me about whether cultural practices like... full review

Mayuri is an absolutely astonishing performer and storyteller. I was mesmerized from start to finish, totally in awe of her talents. The show opens with a showcase of both her insanely impressive physical capabilities and her comedic skills, priming the stage for a stellar experience. This show has so much heart, social and cultural justice advocacy, vulnerability, and raw skill. You will leave this show changed!... full review

Such a fun, and unique one-woman show. I loved the elements of dance, physicality and use of live percussion. The dance was absolutely spell-binding and I could have watched the entire show with just Mayuri's choreography!... full review

The Anti "Yogi" puts on full display Mayuri's talents as a dancer, actress, and storyteller. She seamlessly flowed through characters, making her feel like a one-person band. Mayuri clearly knows what her strengths are as a performer and commits so fully to every choice she makes with her body, expressions, and words. ... full review

A fascinating, layered, funny show that really changed my point of view on the western appropriation of yoga and the "fast fashion" that accompanies it. And Mayuri Bhandari is a STAR!!!! Truly I don't know if I've ever seen someone as graceful and fluid on the stage. She holds your attention from beginning to end.... full review

There are Fringe shows. Then, once in a great while, there's something as powerful, as moving, as spectacular, as captivating, as brilliant, as this. Writer and actor Mayuri Bhandari doesn't just perform. She transcends. By using everything at her disposal - her body, her voice, her authority, music, dance, visuals, props - Bhandari dazzles the audience, daring to break the mold of time and space itself. Her characterization of divine gods and valley girls alike, accompanied by perfectly curated live and digital soundscapes, hypnotizes the viewer to the point that our hearts ache with each twist, our smiles erupt at every catharsis, and our eyes water with every revelation. As a practitioner of yoga myself, my curiosity was drawn by the pre... full review

Brilliant show! Mayuri is an incredibly talented performer and she uses movement, language, and physical theater to craft a powerful comment on present-day American, capitalist imperialism. She is so embodied as a performer, with such fabulous timing, the show is at once funny and poignant - a true tour-de-force! It runs as deep as humanity can go. We all need this show! Don’t miss it! ... full review
