Mayuri is not only an incredible dancer (which, in itself, is something to behold) but also a strong voice for social activism, a compelling stage presence, and a woman who exudes passion for her culture and art. I could not look away, nor did I want to, during her performance. The dynamic between Mayuri and Neel (percussion) added another exciting layer of musical beauty to this exquisite show. I will not forget this show for a long time!... full review

Mayuri is a force to be reckoned with. She commands the stage with such dignity and power - I was brought to tears by her confident Kali. The music, so magnificently offered by Neel Agrawal, enhanced this piece ten fold. Their collaborative exchange was mesmerizing to watch throughout the show. This show is not to be missed!... full review

I was asked what my favorite kind of yoga was during my first week of grad school. Back home, in India, Yoga was what dancers did to stay fit, or the RSS promoted as a back to roots Hindutva tool, and my aunt ran a clinic of to make a few extra bucks to fend off my abusive, alcoholic uncle and it was called - joe-og. My white teacher was confused that all indians were not magical and that some of them (read me) smoked, drank, and inquired about scouring weed (this was in the deep South). Closer home, i.e. here in LA, colleagues have asked to rebalance chakras, or have touted the benefits of vocal yoga. I had no idea that I was harboring so much of the trauma and anxiety from that simple interaction and from these subsequent refrains of white... full review

"The Anti Yogi" is a must see! I am about to graduate from a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training and this show should be a requirement for all YTT programs. Not only was the truthful content perspective shifting, but the dance and music blew me away too. Brava and thank you, Mayuri!... full review

Because watching Mayuri onstage is a force to be reckoned with. Because she not only gives us a history of yoga but also the very importance of its existence in a context never discussed. Because her relationship with her musician Neel onstage transcends the show on levels my body is still digesting. Because she addresses the audience without fear of retribution. Because she names the white cultural appropriation and colonization of yoga in such a direct manner that you undeniably understand the effects it can have not only on a culture but also on one's identity. Because she gives form to numerous characters and deities in a physical manner that is a pleasure to witness. ... full review

One of the most powerful shows in the Fringe Festival this year. WOW. I was so excited to see this show knowing that it would be centered in decolonizing this very sacred and ancient practice eager to learn more. I was completely blown away by Mayuri's writing. What a well crafted script! Brilliant, intelligent, vulnerable, and dynamic storytelling by way of her text...AND her phenomenal acting. She stole all my attention and my heart every second of the way. She confronted the appropriation and colonization of the practice and culture assertively allowing the audience to really question how we have been viewing/receiving/taking yoga as a Western society. Everything about this show is a 10/10 for me. I truly hope this show continues on past ... full review
