Am I Blue is the first play from Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley, and this production is the new LA arts company The Brookside Project’s Fringe theatre debut. Am I Blue is a one-act coming-of-age comedy set in the French Quarter of New Orleans in the 1960s. On a night out alone, the naive and reserved John Polk meets Ashbe, a feisty teenager who lives life on her own terms. Ending up at Ashbe’s apartment, her eccentric nature and energy cancels out John Polk’s nerves and awkward air, and the two of them realize something about finding vulnerability with another person.
