What a delightful idea for a play. Benvolio and Horatio are two of the most crucial, yet frequently sidelined, characters in their respective plays and having them commiserate over their parallel predicaments is just a genius move. Nicole and James wring the most they can out of the premise to gratifying results, in ways guaranteed to excite the fellow Shakesheads out there while still maintaining a rock solid, entertaining, and emotional core that anyone enjoy. Easily one of my favorites from this year.
What I didn't like
Okay but actually can we have a Benny/Ray sitcom please
My overall impression
This play is most definitely a love letter to fellow theatre nerds, but crucially it contains a deep well of character observation, humor, skilled performance, touching moments, and clever turns among the many Shakespeare references.
