What I liked
The writing was incredible, how she takes you through the beats of her life, and realizes who she is what she likes and comes to accept this about herself is a lesson for us all. Not preachy but personal, Jean shares without explaining she shows and tells with her use of physical comedy she had my crowd in stiches! She uses her instrument well, her voice gesture tempo all work together to help imagine the other characters referenced in the piece highly effectively.
What I didn't like
There were technical issues either with the stream or in the theatre with sound so my audience was getting a bit of feedback that was distracting from the mic. Jean was cut off by the camera at times but for the most part the camera work went smoothly. Lighting was a bit challenging at times again it’s hard to know how much control the crew has over this, was it my television the stream or the production? I don’t know but visually it was a bit dark when I wasn’t sure the content called for it. . This piece is very simple to shoot for a stream so that even with all of that it translated and we were truly captivated.
My overall impression
Jean is a force to be reckoned with. Her energy coupled with her fearless honesty and vulnerability shines so brightly we were just absolutely mesmerized here on the east coast as we live streamed this amazing talent. I needed my best pair of raybans to shield me from her glow!
