What I liked

The ensemble cast, including Gia Scott-Heron, Conney Williams, Lorenzo Frank, Clent Bowers, Yawo Watts, Art.Us Mansoir, The ORACLE, and executive producer Tuesday Conner, delivered stellar performances under the direction of sisters Lynne and Tuesday Conner. Both are alumni of Inner City Cultural Center under the direction of C. Bernard Jackson and are International Award-Winning Producers and Filmmakers.

“Gil Scott-Heron Bluesology” is a powerful tribute to legends past and present, documenting the history of Inner City Cultural Center for the future C. Bernard Jackson Library. Bravo to the entire team for creating such a memorable and impactful production. We will definitely be back to see it again!

What I didn't like

The play should be longer.

My overall impression

Play Review: “Gil Scott-Heron Bluesology” at Poets Jazz House
“Gil Scott-Heron Bluesology” is an outstanding play that left me and my entire team thoroughly impressed and wishing it was longer. The talent on display was remarkable, and we are eager to see it again. The cast was exceptional, with each performer bringing a unique and powerful presence to the stage.

Tuesday Conner, one of the show’s executive producers and a member of the ensemble cast, is one of the sweetest and most welcoming individuals I’ve met in a while. Her storytelling and talent are truly exceptional, and it’s clear she has a gift for creating an immersive and engaging theatrical experience.

Despite my tendency to get bored easily, I was fully engaged throughout the entire performance. The interactive element of handing out shakers before the show added a fun and unique touch, making the experience even more enjoyable. After the show, we had the opportunity to stay, talk, and eat with the cast, who were all incredibly welcoming. We also took pictures, adding to the memorable experience.

The play, featuring Gia Scott-Heron, daughter of the legendary writer, poet, rapper, jazz musician, singer, and bluesologist Gil Scott-Heron, along with a fierce band of spoken word artists, was nothing short of electrifying. The powerful intensity of their performances, combined with thought-provoking rhythms, paid homage to Gil Scott-Heron’s legacy as a Civil Rights Activist and influential artist.

The timeless and classic words of Gil Scott-Heron, considered the Godfather of Rap, were brought to life with a satirical edge and the tradition of oral poetry and storytelling. The silent auction, featuring historical and rare memorabilia autographed by Gia Scott-Heron, was a fantastic opportunity to take home a valuable piece of history.
