The reveal of the framing device (I won’t go into detail, for folks who haven’t seen it yet) flipped the delightfully-silly narration of events into something more sobering. It was a tonal shift that worked and felt earned. And Puppet Fidel Castro!
What I didn't like
Nothing that’s coming to mind.
My overall impression
638 successfully walks a thematic tightrope, balancing the mostly-farcical tone of the piece with the grim reality of life lived under a dictatorship.
