The writing is fresh and upbeat even with a heavy message that needs to be experienced.
The Director was incredible and I absolutely needed to see this production twice. Each night I went was electric, and I learned and discovered new things each show. Raymond’s story deserves to be told and shared. The hard work he displays as an actor, writer and producer for this play is only matched by the commitment he has to theatre and film. The messages around inclusivity and acceptance land hard and beautifully.
What I didn't like
Honestly, I really want to see more of Raymond’s work in the world as well as other Latinx/marginalized stories that haven’t been told from their perspective.
Is that a critique? Only for those who would rather Hollywood remain more whitewashed.
I hope Raymond continues producing content he believes in, because his voice is very much needed in this world.
My overall impression
Latini-Duh! is a comedic journey through a necessary, relevant and captivating one-person show. Raymond’s layered and vulnerable solo show offers a glimpse through the eyes of being Latino, and the lack of representation for marginalized folx in Hollywood. The fast pace and tension move the audience through time and space, while holding up a mirror for those who need to see themselves reflected, and a window for those who desperately need to understand.
