What I liked

What stood out to me the most was Raymond’s ability to balance heartfelt storytelling with comedic elements. I particularly loved the character of the queer, sassy writer, which added a layer of relatability and humor that I found refreshing and necessary in today’s climate. The performance was not only entertaining but also educational, shining a light on the underrepresentation of Latinos in film and television in a way that was accessible to both Spanish and non-Spanish speakers. Raymond’s charismatic presence and dynamic characters kept the audience engaged throughout.

What I didn't like

Given the limitations of a black box theater, Raymond did an excellent job with the resources available. However, if the show transitions to a larger venue, incorporating more visual aids could enhance the storytelling experience. Using images or videos when discussing celebrities or specific locations could provide additional context and make the narrative more vivid for the audience. This would create more points of connection and relatability, enriching the overall impact of the performance.

My overall impression

I thoroughly enjoyed Raymond Abel’s performance in “Latiniduh.” The show was a powerful blend of humor, emotion, and social commentary that resonated deeply with me as a Latino. Raymond’s ability to weave his personal journey with broader issues of Latino representation in the entertainment industry was both moving and thought-provoking. The fictional setting of the Latinoverse was a brilliant metaphor for the real-world challenges faced by Latinos in Hollywood, and the performance left me reflecting on my own struggles and identity. Even my plus one, who is not Latino, found the performance engaging and insightful, appreciating the chance to learn about the experiences of others.
