While it is not a new idea to gender bend shakespeare, casting a show with actors of the opposite presenting sex to play the characters in drag expect for the two primary protagonists was brilliant. The director was able to pull the thinly veiled queer coded characters and situations into the forefront of the show making it a fun and unique adaptation of a one of Shakespeare’s popular comedies. The set was simple and elegant and I loved the costuming. I would jump at the opportunity to work with the creative team behind the production.
What I didn't like
The production was so well done, I would have loved a chance to talk with the cast and director after the show! They were all so great, I wanted to know more about them. In an perfect world where shows aren’t stacked on top of eachother for the festival time constraints, a talk back would have been awesome.
My overall impression
I really enjoyed this production of Much Ado About Nothing. The actors were all very talented and the direction was well thought out and creative! I had a great time.
