I loved the use of the live pianist on the stage, and further the way in which she was fully folded into the slightly absurd world of the show. The show uses the many well designed and timed sound cues to a great extent. We hear a variety characters, some very obviously voiced by Sam, and many songs, all delightfully sung by Sam. They can sing, they can dance, after all miss, this is SAM. And by the end of it all, you’re bound to be a Sam Fan too.
What I didn't like
I would have loved to see more live score played, since you’ve already got her up there.
My overall impression
A parody-licious talent showcase of a pitch perfect performer. She acts her ass off, and it’s just as funny in the subtext as it is on the surface. Sam is supremely charismatic, and their journey is wholly relatable, at least to anyone peripherally involved in “the industry”. In my personal journey of loving acting, and hating rejection, I too have learned to find purpose and joy in producing and comedy. Which, although largely colored by my own perspective, seems to be a big part of the message of SAM. An excellent mostly-solo show, whose result is a completely entertaining hour that encourages both the performer and the viewer to find the things that make it all worth it, and focus on those.
