The writing re-contextualizes the familiar story of Midsummer to allow Bottom to explore the darker aspects of his story and character. The dialogue shifts nimbly between contemporary English and quoting Shakespeare. The jokes are funny and disarm you for the more serious moments. Day uses the fact that he is doing this show all on his own to the fullest effect.

My overall impression
A delightful imagining of one of Shakespeare’s iconic characters. Charlie Day offers laughs and pathos. He truly show’s-off Bottom…’s heart,
