With boundless, almost phrenetic energy, Vanessa Boss commands the stage in this coming of age story peopled with many colorful fairy tale-like characters from her psyche. Her movement in and out of these characters is an impressive emotionally acrobatic feat.... full review

Supportive White Parents

I absolutely adored this delightful musical! It was a delicious treat at the end of a hard day for me. I laughed so hard my seat shook. I have to admit, sometimes it came a little close to home as I have a daughter at Berkeley (just like the protagonist) who recently had to announce to her father (an Asian parent) that she was changing her major from Computer Science to English (much like the protagonist who changes hers from Microbiology to Theater Arts and East Asian Studies.) The parental 'dis... full review

The Notorious M.O.M.S.

M.O.M.S. gives us a glimpse into the life of Moms Mabley through the eyes of a woman in the late 70s who has just been raped and is trying desperately to cope. The piece is a clever vehicle for this fascinating piece of history, but left me wanting to know much more about the comedian who paved the way for so many to follow. ... full review

Olivia Wilde Does Not Survive the Apocalypse

Olivia Wilde Does Not Survive the Apocalypse is Rip Van Winkle meets Original Star Trek's Cloud Minders with zombies, of course. It was a clever, entertaining adventure that even had Beyonce worshippers. ... full review

Start Swimming

With it's percussive chant-like poetry, Start Swimming is a call for revolution. This piece haunted me into the next day and when I tried to describe it to my mother on the phone, I choked up. This is not your usual Fringe show, nor is it for everyone, but if you can stomach a hard look at what the young people in our culture are facing today, then absolutely see this play. ... full review

BlackBoxing is a riotous look at the relationship between the different creators in the world of theater reminiscent of Noises Off with a splash of Oscar Wilde and a dash of Monty Python. ... full review

Chrissy Meth~A Dance with the Devil and the Journey Back

jennifer chun · June 26, 2019 uncertified reviewer
This was an intimate experience - like a conversation with a dear girlfriend. Chrystal Bush is very welcoming and inclusive and we were pulled in, laughing and tearing up almost immediately. The casual way she addresses her audience makes the fourth wall disappear little by little as the show progresses until the end when she is talking directly to each of us. ... full review

Ask A Black Woman

Shanara pulls the audience in immediately and then gives a one two punch to the gut. And she doesn't let up. Five minutes in, I was cringing to hear each new part of her story unfold. As painful as it was to watch, I wanted more. This show is an amazing experience. At the end of it I felt heavy, like it was hard to get up out of my seat. But it was a good 'heavy.' It was a 'heavy' born of better understanding. ... full review
