A Beast/A Burden

victor sotomayor · June 14, 2018 uncertified reviewer
What is art? That’s the question that Chris Burden (played by an engaging and powerhouse Ben Hethcoat) asks the audience after having witnessed some of his stunts or pieces that makes you question: is this art?... full review

Skin Jobs

I enjoyed the great acting and how engaging Skin Jobs was. One Asian woman has been tasked with digitally enhancing an actress face to make her look Asian, even though she’s white and her best friend is shocked that she’s actually going to do it. What drove the message home is how much more outraged was her friend than her. Suddenly you’re entrapped in their argument and can’t quite decide whose side you’re on.... full review

TRAPPED AT TEA TIME

An elderly woman gets an uninvited and unwelcomed visit at her door. Ramiro storms inside her house, ties her up and begins searching for her safe, her money and her jewelry. Does it sound funny yet? Sometimes, real stories sound stranger than fiction and, in this dramedy written by Marcos Cohen, sometimes funny.... full review

Then she’s handed a manuscript about a man w... full review

The Day I Became Black

victor sotomayor · June 10, 2018 certified reviewer
I came out emotionally drained from this show. I would have never thought a comedy from biracial actor Bill Posley would affect me in such a way but that’s the beauty of the Fringe where you never know what you’re gonna get. Mad props on the magnificent acting, Bill’s command of the stage and his charisma will make you laugh out loud, reflect on racial stereotypes and even cry along with Bill over police beatings of black citizens senseless and without regard for their lives.... full review

I Died Today

Rene Rosado is very charismatic and adds such depth to the character whose dead body lies next to him as he delivers his monologue and recounts his life, the love for his mom and everything he’ll miss now that he’s dead. ... full review

New Kid On the Block

I was immersed into a street sidewalk the moment I found a seat to watch the show which is part of the charm of New Kid On The Block: homeless person roaming around the stage, begging audience for money, a couple sitting on their cell phones ignoring them, pedestrians walking by... By the time the show begins, I felt I was familiar with this story, as an Angeleno who sees this scene almost everywhere and have debated whether or not help a homeless person or simply pretend they’re invisible.... full review

Snap Honey

victor sotomayor · June 09, 2018 certified reviewer
Vageena Honey makes an honest attempt at holding it all together. A drag queen goes on a talk show to tell her story about surviving an abusive father, bullies and teachers in high school and a narcissistic sugar daddy as the audience becomes the audience within the audience; I felt I was part of an awkward Björk video for the entire show, wondering why I was there for in the first place.... full review

Many Trump Refugees in One Body

Lyralen’s show grabbed my attention from the very beginning. I enjoyed spending time getting to know Lyralen and her many alter egos that occupy her body. Amazing storytelling and lots of laughs. A must see!... full review
