The Young Jane Show

The performance aimed to capture the emotion of resistance through music and minimal staging. Some scenes had strong symbolic power, and the stripped-down design let the performer take center stage. At times, the abstract structure made it hard to connect emotionally, but the effort and intention were clear. It was bold—and worth seeing, especially in a setting like Fringe where riskier work can have a voice.... full review

PEEP

In an era where appearances and social codes are often treated as the currency of modern life, Peep dares to ask: what happens when we strip off the mask and approach the messiest parts of ourselves? Created and performed by Pamela and Erik, this variety show doesn't treat silliness as an escape, but rather as a confrontation. Within its playful chaos, Peep dismantles pretense and posturing with bold, irreverent energy. It’s a show that disarms you, catches you off guard, and—like a metaphorical ... full review

My Tiger

My Tiger unfolds like an autobiographical theatre piece, tracing the life of Didi, a Chinese mixed-race man growing up in America. But this is no mere memoir — it's a piercing exploration of identity, belonging, and the cultural fractures that lie beneath the surface of a multiethnic society. In a country like the United States, where communities are diverse yet often deeply divided, the need for communal bonds becomes critical. And it is precisely within this space that mixed-race individuals... full review

In The Injustice of Virginity, writer-director Thea Pueschel presents a solo performance that follows a neurodivergent young woman’s attempt to navigate her first sexual experience. While the premise leans into humor, the piece also thoughtfully explores deeper themes such as isolation, miscommunication, and the societal pressure to meet conventional milestones. Dominique Turner delivers a nuanced performance as Justice, guiding the audience through awkward encounters, peculiar party dynamics,... full review

Suck My Tongue

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon a Japanese drama featuring an adult grandson bathing with his grandmother, lovingly scrubbing her back while engaging in heartfelt conversation. This scene made me ponder how we, living in California, would perceive such an intimate moment. This reflection resurfaced as I watched "Suck My Tongue" by the Catharsis Theatre Collective. In our social media-saturated world, a lifetime of 70 years of remarkable achievements can be obliterated in just a 7-second video... full review

An older Indian woman, understanding, producing, and performing through the work of a seasoned female playwright, drew me into the story. The interplay between a feisty grandmother and her emotional granddaughter filled the stage with refreshing energy. The dialogue was entertaining, and above all, Vee Kumari's natural and endearing portrayal of the grandmother kept me smiling throughout. This is a delightful show at the Fringe that you don't want to miss.... full review

Missionary Positions

Jesus' profound declaration that "the truth will set you free" reverberated in my mind throughout the captivating performance. This thought-provoking show poses a poignant question: How many Christians find themselves ensnared within the confines of religious dogma, unable to fully embrace the liberating essence that Jesus so sacrificially embodied? Moreover, it challenges us to acknowledge the scars borne by those coerced into adhering to rigid and uncompromising religious beliefs. As a crea... full review

As you step into the theater, the sight of Alex Ryan lying on the floor, bound to the spot where a corpse would rest, immediately captures your attention. The show commences with her skillfully filming a self-tape using her phone—an engaging opening that deeply resonates with the majority of the audience. What initially appears as unrelated moments gradually interweaves, inviting us on a profound exploration of Alex's identity, family dynamics, experiences of loss, grief, and the lingering pains ... full review
