Music Talks

carol m. becker · June 09, 2025 certified reviewer
Hosting a talk show has NEVER been this off-the-wall hysterical! A dynamic duo of singers showcase not only their vocal chops, but their comedy ones as well. And when it comes to testimonial videos... I can only say that each one is a gem of hilarity. I came into the Yard Theatre not knowing anyone affiliated with Music Talks. However, I left knowing that Andie and Austin have a singular boffo presence in the world of song-writing, spoof, and ingenuity. This is a show I most strongly recommend... full review

Charmin The Musical

carol m. becker · June 08, 2025 certified reviewer
While the world is already two years post global pandemic, very real memories linger about the widespread chaos that ensued in America. Stores were left empty of essentials and while for many, that meant no water was to be found, for the purposes of Charmin the Musical, it all boils down to the sacred, coveted toilet paper. What happens when you run out? Should you risk you life to get it? How does a couple cope? Thankfully, Jon Enright's witty, melodramatic musical showcases how Sheila and H... full review

I Hope You're Having Fun in Hell, Dad

carol m. becker · June 08, 2025 certified reviewer
Some families take dysfunction to historic levels with heavy doses of humor added in to the mix. In Adriana Martínez Barrón's semi-autobiographical dark comedy, I Hope You're Having Fun in Hell, Dad, emotions run high at patriarch Fausto Lopez's funeral. An extremely successful business, Lopez is introduced as a controversial, disliked father and philandering spouse. All hell breaks loose at the reading of his will with many expecting to cash in on his passing. What, if anything, will he leav... full review

Sweet Air

carol m. becker · June 07, 2025 certified reviewer
Sweet Air is an intriguing comedy, that is neither rom-com, meet-cute, nor about falling in love. What it is about is connection - between strangers. The writing is clever, witty, and is not shy about sharing certain truths. For example, the ease with which people can sometimes share the most intimate details or secrets about themselves with a perfect stranger was spot on. This two-hander offers a unique perspective on a genre with a catchy name: platoni-com!... full review

Theatre Show (a play about a woman)

carol m. becker · July 02, 2024 certified reviewer
Coming into a show that has gotten quite the "buzz," my expectations were high. On the inventiveness of the concept, it did not disappoint! The laughs were bountiful and we just didn't know what was going to happen next! The Narrator was certainly charming, patient, and willing to engage the Woman in the show.... full review

GRAPE CULTURE

In one word, this show was RIVETING! Why it doesn't have more reviews for these two performers is sincerely beyond me. I wanted to emotionally hug both Sarah and Tony for their bravery, their honesty and the commitment they had to sharing their truth with unknown audiences. Just to have a moment, as women, to acknowledge their pain was something profound. Simultaneously, I must congratulate them for sheer performative brilliance!! These ladies were EXCEPTIONAL in all the ways! ALL THE WAYS!... full review

Stay With Me

carol m. becker · July 01, 2024 certified reviewer
Stay With Me is a clever, audience participation show that allows folks to choose how the two performers will meet and potentially thrive (or not) in the course of their relationship (aka, the length of the show). Using dance, improvisation, instrument playing and singing, many different options are open to the audience. With a lot of artistry showcased, this cabaret show is pleasing to the eyes and ears! ... full review

Vivian Vance Alive and Well Running Chinese Take-out

Viv would be kvelling over what can best be described as a vivacious, visceral and versatile Kickboom classic! With the talented actors displaying some gorgeous harmonies, precision movements and a flash for storytelling, Wuchte has once again proven why his brand of theatre is unlike any and all others! Long may these shows continue to thrive and flourish at the Fringe!... full review

Bigfoot! The Musical

carol m. becker · June 28, 2024 certified reviewer
A prediction... this musical is BOUND FOR GREATNESS beyond the fringe festivals that is appearing at this summer! That's right... while we get the pleasure of a production here, New York is also getting to fall in love with the story, music and lyrics of this loveable lug Bigfoot, his sickly Momma, the altruistic Mr./Dr., the not-so-sane girlfriend, Joanne, the drunkest Mayor ever, and some of Muddirt's finest towns folks!! I was privileged to see this show and have several tunes still in my he... full review

Three Can Keep a Secret

carol m. becker · June 28, 2024 certified reviewer
Three Can Keep a Secret is what happens when an EXCEPTIONAL WRITER (who knows how to create a specific world with a cast of unlikeable characters) teams up with a SHARP DIRECTOR (who knows how to masterfully stage entrances, exits, stage combat, make-out sessions, etc.) and a PITCH-PERFECT CAST OF PERFORMERS (who embody their characters fully)! I was so giddy with this show, the choices involved, the unknown "what's gonna happen now?" questions, and the comedy (oh, the comedy)! This was just a ... full review
