Anyone looking for a titillating solo show with a philosophical poetess need look no further. In Smut with Entendre Entendre, performer Bryn Woznicki presents a deliciously bawdy burlesque play avec un accent français. Clad in the appropriate sensual lingerie, Entendre sings, dances, recites and beguiles the audience in just an hour's time.
In earnest moments discussing how "everything is about sex except sex," Entendre discusses power plays as she flirts with audience members. This dominatrix...

Writer/Performer Veronica Rosas has created a textbook solo show that meets the true definition of dark humor. If a person thinks about having a serial killer for a neighbor, I doubt most will ponder the "why" of why they have not been killed. However, that is exactly what Rosas' character, Victoria does in this feverish exploration of loneliness and self-worth.
Make no mistake, this show is not going to be the easiest for some people. To poke fun at murder and suicide in this particular way m...

Get ready to blast off into space because the meteorite has landed. It would appear that Janis Joplin has reincarnated into the body and spirit of singer, Liz Eldridge in her dazzling show, Space Rock Opera! Accompanied by a four-person band, Eldridge portrays Mrs. Hughes, the only known survivor of a meteorite injury. To the best of my research, this character is based on the real-life, Ann Elizabeth Fowler Hodges and her experiences of notoriety following being hit by a meteorite in the 1950's....

Pay attention, please, class is in session for the masterful Ms. Edwards! This solo show is an absolute triumph for writer/performer Sidney Edwards and her co-writer/director, Byron Coolie! Their A+ efforts collide in a fun-loving tribute to both of her Grandmothers (Carolyn and Grace), her Mother (Terry), and her Aunt (Coletta). Even 8-year old Sidney appears to start the show on her school bus.
All the relatives that Sidney portrays in this 50-minute show happen to work at the same school in...

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you'll kindly take your seats, Diana Romero has landed at the Hollywood Fringe Festival! Not only is her solo show, Me, Myself and Other a whirlwind of self-discovery, emotion, and travel, but it's also a raw and vulnerable look at what it means to be "othered" in society.
Diana's journey is colorful and truly one-of-a-kind. Whether it's growing up to hippy parents, (who also happen to be atheists) in Kansas, returning to Colombia to attend a French private school, o...

Queen of the World: An Evening with Marlene Dietrich is, in two words, masterpiece theatre. I am unfamiliar with Ivette Viñas or her previous work, but this solo show is at another level! Just like the subject of her show who engrossed fans worldwide, Viñas is utterly captivating in her portrayal.
The entire show is a series of conversations that Dietrich, fresh from a live performance, has with her book writer, Johnny (unseen). She sits at her dressing room table, applying make-up and weavin...

Come All Ye Faithful (and even those not so faithful) to experience the historical zaniness that is Oh Constantine! Writer/Director Jan-David Soutar shares a droll 55-minute, 10-person play filled with clergy, royalty, fealty, and frenzy.
For those unfamiliar with the Emperor Constantine, be prepared for a fast-paced, comedy that explores the most significant portion of his reign. And expect to participate as Eusebius (yes, that one, the biographer) asks for help in convening the Council on N...

Very few topics in the world have consensus. However, I am willing to bet that all of us can agree that puberty is the pits. Sadly, females get an unequal added bonus in the form of menstruation. Sadly, aging is just harder when blood is involved. And Gillian O'Leary's play, Girl Blood, is proof of that.
With questions about sexuality and issues with parents and friends circling around, this 90-minute drama is not afraid to dive deep into discomfort. In fact, having characters freak out, cry,...

When it comes to the Amazing Sex Life of Rabbits, I can best sum it up by quoting Shakespeare, "The play's the thing!" Classifying itself as comedic theatre is truly an understatement for how rich the subject, characters, and overall production aesthetics are in Michael Shaw Fisher's play. Allow me to "hop" on the bandwagon of praise the show richly deserves. For this play serves up a bevy of personality with a side dish of aphrodisia-infused banter.
As the foursome of players come together, t...

Marry Me a Little is probably the most difficult of the Sondheim revues to pull off. The reasoning is two-fold: first, most of the songs are completely unknown and secondly, this revue has no accompanying dialogue to help explain any transitions from song to song.
Sondheim aficionados will surely appreciate seeing this show and perhaps doing what I did, comparing it to some of his other revues: namely, Side by Side by Sondheim, Putting it Together, and the newest, Old Friends.
Marry Me a L...
