Easy Targets

This is a MUST SEE show-- especially for those in need of some theatrical catharsis. By inviting the audience to hurl socks at the performers-- and making their pieces especially laden with "triggering" cringe/groaner moments-- Easy Targets lets us get out the displeasure we normally mask under polite nods after shows, and expel some of our general rage at the injustice of the world at the same time. It's like a carnival game on stage-- you purchase as many socks as you like (and trust me, you wi... full review

The Death of Eurydice

Rachel and Ron do a beautiful job of creating an elegant portrait with just themselves in this gem of a piece. I found myself totally drawn into the story-- Rachel is deeply captivating, carrying us with her emotional journey through joy, shock, sorrow, confusion and longing, while Ron maintains a steady foil as the wise stranger-- I believe my favorite part was his direct address where we saw his personality more, and I love how they chose to end it. It is a beautiful and poignant 30 minutes tha... full review

Why We Become Witches

This was a nice cake pop of a show-- meaning it gives you a tasty and satisfying bite of a specific story from a specific time in a very compact and enjoyable way-- while it is listed as around an hour, tonight ran faster, which is never a bad thing for fitting in more shows. Lisa was fascinating to watch and really transports the audience through her interactions with recorded voices that stand in for an oppressive family. Her comic timing is spot on. The writing is excellent-- classic dry wit w... full review

Divorce: The Hip-Hop Musical

I'm so happy I got to catch this show! It's definitely one to add to your Fringe scheduled viewing. This fresh young cast does a tremendous job creating a full piece of musical theater from only themselves-- even accompaniment is provided from one dude on a mic in the corner, beatboxing. They deal with the usual tropes of divorce-- heartbreak, jealousy, even custody and alimony-- only since it's set in the 4th grade, it takes what's generally a pretty glum subject and makes it hilarious. I really... full review

A wonderfully entertaining way to spend 50 minutes and perfect send up of the genre! It was pretty much delightfully silly, and the perfect under-hour length with zero fat. Find the way to fit this little puzzle piece of a show into the matrix of your Fringe viewing and you'll be glad you did!... full review

Still Got It

Hilarious, heartbreaking, brilliant work-- perfectly paced and performed and wonderfully directed. Hunt's genius performance and Van Kurin's direction guide us along evenly through narrative jumps in time with subtle and effective lighting shifts. They are so good at playing your heartstrings it's as if Pixar were developing an NC-17 solo show about the worst day ever. Find the time and make this show a priority, it's just fantastic.... full review

BLOOD, A Voodoo Love Story

One of my favorite shows of the Fringe for sure: a tight little gem of powerhouse acting and a script so raw and pithy the hour zooms by in a flash and leaves you reeling. I've never seen such creative exploration of insatiable female sexuality, kink and the difficulty of maintaining that spark that inevitably fizzles with monogamous commitment. This show takes it to the nth degree of an actual tangible monster, which is performed in flawless, effective unison by the players for an incredible dra... full review

Utterly BRILLIANT: an absolute must see for Fringe 2015. While it's hard to imagine that a show dealing with the subject of street harassment would be a good time, this show achieves exactly that, with remarkable finesse. It tackles the issue from multiple angles in a way that is extremely relatable, often poignant, but at the same time immensely entertaining, often laugh-out-loud funny, and over the top absurd, exactly the kind of treatment this absurd social phenomenon deserves. The cast is exc... full review

Fifty Shades of Shrew

Wonderfully done, and I seriously cannot imagine The Taming of the Shrew done any other way now that I've seen this BDSM take. It makes Kate's submission empowered, sexy and fun instead of creepy, weird and misogynist. Bonus: the show's informative intro from an actual Domme gives the audience the inside intel to better understand how healthy and happy play should happen, unlike the misinformation spread by 50 Shades. The cast is really strong-- they handle the Shakespearian text with aplomb,... full review
