52 PICK-UP is a delightful, adorable, painful one act clown show. I felt for the characters all the way through. This classical beauty builds its own meaning through clever prop work, perhaps confusing at first but when things click, it feels like a wonderful magic trick. I’ve never experienced a show like this, clown in the traditional sense. FAMILY FRIES is a tragicomic exploration of nuclear family trauma and how we relate to it, the characters defining themselves or rejecting themselves by their neglectful upbringing. ELEMENO PEA is an incisive show that plays with the idiosyncrasies of upper class behavior through the eyes of two sisters. It strikes a beautiful balance between comedy and drama supported by actors who put their whole hearts into the performance. THE DOG LOG is a truly funny and touching one man show about grieving love and finding family in unexpected places. This clever and playful piece was adapted from the storyteller’s memoir, condensing over 70,000 words into under 10,000–a mighty task in a few different ways, but skillfully done nonetheless. MS TUCKER WILL SEE YOU NOW is a fabulous, well written cabaret performance that manages to be playful, sexy, vulnerable, and educational. I went on a whim and was very glad I did—Laural makes the show feel welcoming and engaging throughout, and paired with Fred the pianist they offer some impressive Tucker hits. MANIC is a trip into Roxy’s world, featuring glamorous burlesque, daddy issues, and a lifelong obsession with fame. Roxy has brought the voices in her mind to life with carefully cultivated comedic personas and they are here to entertain. Each character is very distinct, with enormous thought clearly put into their development. I loved the multimedia aspect—fitting, given Roxy’s music video directing experience.
