#HASHTAG is a funny, charming, and well done ensemble piece about social media. Definitely a good way to spend an hour - it really moves along. The company finds clever ways to incorporate media into the production - but I wish they could find a way to get the projections higher up on the back wall, it was often hard to read the bottom lines around the actors...... full review

The Pokemusical

Geez, this brought back memories - i remember being obsessed with the cartoon when it 1st aired (i was a grownup, so go figure). This is a lot of fun - the show cleverly replicates/gently teases the tropes of the TV show (and video game, though i lack familiarity with that). I'm not totally convinced that this needs to be a musical, most of the brilliant things about it were in book scenes. The Jigglypuff song arrangement was awesome, however. Special shout out to the actress who plays Pikachu... full review

The Real Housekeepers of Studio City

Witty, clever, funny, charming. The multiply talented cast give excellent "impressions" of all your favorite TV housekeepers, tied together with a nice story. I hope this piece has a future, and i look forward to hearing what's next from the creators!... full review

White Trash Wedding and a Funeral

I happened into this show because it was the next thing playing. The cast was talented and committed, and much silliness, stereotyping, and (very) low brow humor ensued. Much of the audience was laughing itself hoarse. I can appreciate it for what it is, but it is not my cup of tea. (Or beer. Or spit-out chewing tobacco.) But it was fun, and I laughed sometimes in spite of myself... I look forward to seeing these actors in other projects!... full review

EXORCISTIC: the Rock Musical Parody Experiment

amy francis schott · June 20, 2013 uncertified reviewer
Truly awesome! Go see this. EXORCISTIC is my favorite of the 10 or so Fringe shows i've seen thus far. I'll admit to some concern going in - i have seen an awful lot of lame "parodies" - within 5 minutes i realized, "Wait - this is a REAL MUSICAL!" Michael Shaw Fisher is a young writer to keep an eye on: the book and lyrics are clever and funny, and the music is excellent. And he is good in the show (writers in their own shows tend to be another red flag, but not this time.) The entire cast ... full review

David and Leeman: How to Convincingly Fake Honesty

amy francis schott · June 18, 2013 uncertified reviewer
This is a fun, fast paced show. David and Leeman have a great rapport with each other and are so funny you may not even realize what excellent magicians they are. BE WARNED: there is audience participation (which i avoid like the plague), and you don't get a choice. My only other quibble is with the title, which has nothing to do with the show.(Maybe that's just me.) I'd imagined that it would be more related to con artists/ pickpockets/ etc, revealing some tricks of the "trade" while also ast... full review

Lost Moon Radio presents Roger Wodehouse's Androgymnasium

When this ended, i said to my companion, "THIS is what Fringe is supposed to be." Which is to say, that in spite of some unevenness in material and presentation, it is truly an outpouring of creativeness, in this case all in the service of fun. Of course, i grew up on Mr. Rogers... and discovered David Bowie only a few years later... so this was right on it for me. Ryan Harrison was awesome as the Bowie-esque Roger, his gestures and phrasing were spot on; Frank Smith was delightful as an assor... full review

Untitled: We're Doing a Play

amy francis schott · June 18, 2013 uncertified reviewer
A charmingly silly and fun (if uneven) piece of theatre, created and performed by talented young people when they lost the rights to the play they'd intended to produce. Instead of giving up, they said, "Hey kids, let's put on a show!" If some of the humour is sophomoric, you'll still laugh (hey we were all sophomores once... these folks more recently than some of us.) It would be hard not to have a good time. (and they give you candy!)... full review
