HOOP, a new theatrical work from Los Angeles-based performer and producer RM Aranda, will make its Hollywood Fringe Festival debut this June at The Activist Kitchen. The production will run June 13-22, 2026 with three performances.

This surreal solo clown piece is about a hoop alien from a hoop planet who has come to this planet to “fix the hole.” Using simple props, physicality, and audience interaction, RM Aranda takes audiences on a rollercoaster of emotion, through the deepest darkest holes of human experience, finding comedy along the way. "This past year, I’ve been very interested in exploring “the beautiful clown,”" Aranda says. “The clown that enters a space in a state of complete vulnerability and wonder, allowing the audience to dream around them. How simple can a solo show be? And can we reach a state of the sublime through something that’s so stupid? These are the questions I’ve been investigating, and I’m excited to explore them with this piece.”

According to the production, audiences can expect “a weird abstract exploration of loneliness, connection, despair and joy, led by an intergalactic orphan.”

R.M. Aranda is a queer Mexican-American performer who has trained in clown and immersive theater with the Idiot Workshop, Natasha Mercado, Phil Burgers, Adam Smith, Eric Davis; improv/sketch with Upright Citizen’s Brigade; Meisner at Elizabeth Mestnik’s Acting Studio; and the theater department at UC Irvine. They had a successful run of their solo show “…and the hits just keep on coming!” at Hollywood Fringe 2025, and they’ve been developing this new solo clown piece over the past year.

Performances will take place at The Activist Kitchen, located at 669 Heliotrope Dr in Los Angeles.
