Burlesque & Chill’s adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid puts the queer history of the story at the forefront

A retelling of the original fairytale replacing repression and lost love for queer joy through burlesque, dance, and live music.

Burlesque & Chill’s The Little Mermaid is showing Saturday, June 20th at 6:30pm and Sunday, June 21st at 12:30pm at The Cat’s Crawl in Los Angeles as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The live band burlesque troupe Burlesque & Chill is making a splash at Hollywood Fringe Festival. A retelling of the classic fairytale, The LITTLE MERMAID, brings to life a fantasy world where queer love wins and bisexual author, Hans Christian Andersen, could have lived his truth.

Using burlesque, dance, and incredible covers of pop, jazz and rock songs by Burlesque & Chill’s own in-house live band, The Teasers, Burlesque & Chill’s The Little Mermaid tells the story of a merperson finding love, acceptance, and queer joy.

There will be two opportunities to catch this production as they are set to have a Saturday evening show at 6:30pm on June 20 and a Sunday matinee show at 12:30pm on June 21 at The Cat’s Crawl in Los Angeles.

With a cast that further supports Burlesque & Chill’s mission, the company fills the stage with a diverse cast of dancers and soloists from different performance backgrounds and celebrating bodies of all genders, races, sizes, and abilities. Featuring main characters, Pansy St Battie as The Little Merperson, Xochii de la Noche as The Hot Maiden, and guest performer Mauro Cuchi as The Prince.

A queer, happy ending (yes, that’s a euphemism) with themes of liberation, bodily autonomy, and self expression.

BURLESQUE & CHILL’S shows are produced by Miss Lady Legs.
Miss Lady Legs’ passion for dance began around the age of 7 when she joined a competitive ballet studio where she went onto train through her teen years. She later studied dance at Cornish College of the Arts and performed with various contemporary companies. She’s gone on to choreograph for music videos, stage productions, and Artistic Director and choreographer of Burlesque & Chill troupe dance numbers.
