Slack Off
What happens when a Jewish girl from Connecticut, raised by a rabbi, conditioned to defend Israel at all costs, and quietly losing her grip on reality, decides the most logical alternative to college is joining a foreign military?

Slack Off is a sharp, hilarious, and surprisingly tender autobiographical solo show about identity, belonging, and the stories we tell ourselves to avoid doing the hard work of actually knowing who we are. Penina Beede traces her journey from growing up in a tight-knit Jewish community, through a life-changing few years in Israel, and back home again with a very different understanding of herself and the world.
Part coming-of-age story, part political reckoning, and entirely cringe by her own proud admission, Slack Off asks what it means to untangle yourself from the knots your community tied you into, and how self-expression might just be the thing that saves you.

Content note: Contains mature themes including mental illness, military service, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Lenny’s House
Lenny’s House was born out of a desire to support entrepreneurial arts projects in a world where we felt unsupported. Our mission is to create new strategies for storytelling and stage time. We aim to be a step in the creative process by connecting creators and providing tools that help artists make meaningful work. Founding members Belle Flanegan and Penina Beede were deep in the process of developing their Master’s Capstone thesis projects for The New School’s Arts Management and Entrepreneurship Program when they had an idea. Both of their projects, a matchmaking service for writers and directors and a solo show working group and festival, addressed one moment in a creative journey. The moment creatives meet and click, the day your stand-up set transforms into a play: they are fixated on the transitional moments that make good art. In collaboration with actor Ivy Di., Lenny’s House was born. As a new collective, these three artists strive to provide strategies and tools to progress creative projects through creative challenges. Together, they are prioritizing ‘Slack Off’ as of May 2026 and are excited to continue growing Lenny’s House into the future of entrepreneurial arts.
