The first Singaporean to headline Punch Line San Francisco brings a world premiere one-woman comedy show about racism, burnout, ambition, and what the American Dream actually looks like when you show up with the wrong face

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 17, 2026) — If you’ve ever chased a dream and wondered, “wait… was this a mistake?”—this show is for you.

San Francisco-based comedian Elisha Tan brings her highly anticipated free solo show, Alpha Asian’s Guide to the American Dream, to the 2026 Hollywood Fringe Festival for its world premiere. Running June 16–21 at The Activist Kitchen, the show is a sharp, hilarious, and brutally honest hour of stand-up about what happens when you leave Singapore to save your startup in Silicon Valley—and America hands you an identity crisis instead of a success story.

Elisha had a plan: move to the U.S., build a company, and become the kind of success story her grandma could brag about between guilt trips (her favorite form of travel). Instead, she got a crash course in what America actually looks like when you show up with the wrong face—and a name they’ll butcher anyway. What followed was career chaos, burnout, and the kind of failure that definitely doesn’t make it onto LinkedIn.

But here’s the twist: the story has a happy ending. Elisha actually made it—and people noticed. Channel News Asia, CNBC, Yahoo Finance, and The Straits Times covered her story. The Australian government flew her in to tell it. Conferences across Asia booked her to share it. Now, for the first time, she’s telling that story the way it deserves to be told: as a live stand-up comedy show.

“When I was failing, it was a very lonely process. Nobody talks about their failure,” says Elisha. “But when I started talking about it on stage, people were laughing, and we bonded over my trauma. I made failure funny.”

By day, Elisha is a program manager at Meta. By night, she performs stand-up six to seven times a week across San Francisco’s top comedy clubs. She made history as the first Singaporean to headline the iconic Punch Line San Francisco and has performed at the Laugh Factory, Cobb’s Comedy Club, Broadway Comedy Club, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. She has opened for Dave Attell and Ahmed Ahmed, and was recently profiled by CNA TODAY as “the Singaporean comedian in Silicon Valley making punchlines out of failures.”

In a festival packed with traditional theater, Alpha Asian’s Guide to the American Dream stands apart. There’s no toxic positivity. No “everything happens for a reason.” Just real stories, bold takes, and punchlines that hit a little too close to home. If she’s going to be handed stereotypes, she’s going to weaponize them. If she’s going to fail, she’s going to make it funny. Because if the American Dream won’t accept her, she’ll build her own.
