Franken’s A.I.

A futuristic retelling of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, on the 210th anniversary of its creation, with special appearances by Mary Shelley and Lord Byron.

Los Angeles, May 7, 2026.

The perfect human is not… human?

Franken’s A.I. is an original new play written by actress, writer, director Jola Cora, herself born a short walk from the villa Diodati, in Cologny, Geneva, Switzerland, where the idea of Frankenstein was born.

1816, villa Diodati, Geneva, Switzerland, the world is overcome by gloom after the eruption of the volcano on Mount Tambora. The atmospheric dust blocks sunlight in the stratosphere; it is the year without a summer and Lord Byron, Percy and Mary Shelley, John Polidori and Claire Clairmont are diverting themselves with ghost stories. Mary Shelley creates Frankenstein.

2036, Silicon Valley, California, global warming has reached such destructive highs that geoengineers have created an artificial volcano eruption to cool down the atmosphere. It is another year without a summer and Swiss engineer Victoria Franken creates an artificial companion meant to lead humans to their betterment.

Franken’s A.I. opens on June 12 as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2026 at The McCadden Theatre – 1157 N McCadden Pl, Los Angeles, CA 90038.

Franken’s A.I. is a tale about Frankenstein, creativity, climate change, responsibility, poetry, artificial intelligence, laudanum and Mary Shelley and Lord Byron.

This Hollywood Fringe production is a short stage version of a future feature film and play, looking for producers.
