SLACK TIDE TO PREMIER AT 2026 HOLLYWOOD FRINGE: A PLAY ABOUT ENVIRONMENTALISM, MAKING MEANING, AND OLD FRIENDS.
Slack Tide
This year, at The Hollywood Fringe, The Who’s Askings will produce Slack Tide – a new play written and directed by Jonah Matso.
Slack Tide features four friends on the precipice of the rest of their lives, spending an afternoon where they always have – a picnic table overlooking the harbor, in coastal Maine. Over the course of ninety minutes, wide ranging conversation swells to heated dispute and hysteric laughter. Environmentalism. Dystopia. Deepfake pornography. Aquaculture. These topics and more are interrogated by the cast as they avoid the real questions: How much is all this nostalgia and tradition really worth? What is left when we parse it away? Do we still belong in each others’ lives?
“This was a play born out of some arguments I’d been having with myself,” writer/director Jonah Matso says. “Being from a place that is heartachingly beautiful also means watching it change, or diminish – and it hasn’t been easy to accept that those are two different things. And they are both happening while I am away.”
Slack Tide runs ninety minutes and features a cast of four: Aidhan Astrachan, Gabriela Raven, Logan Bell, and Adrianne Owings. Performances are scheduled at the Zephyr Theater on Melrose. The Who’s Askings are: Jonah Matso, Katy Kragel, and Aidhan Astrachan. We look forward to six performances, beginning June 5th and ending June 28th. Tickets are available for purchase through the Hollywood Fringe website.
