Playwright/Director Marks attended the Padua Hills Playwright’s Festival. Recent work includes:

“OPHELIA” • “Ophelia is part poetic fever dream and part esoteric excavation. Most of all it is a profoundly intimate treatise of the self that is expressively beautiful.” – Tracey Paleo, GIA ON THE MOVE

“MIDDLE8” • “If Thornton Wilder were still alive to write a rock opera about five musicians dealing with issues of love, life, death and what comes after, he might choose to title it Our Band. Stefan Marks calls his play-with-songs Middle8, and for anyone who’s seen the playwright-actor-director-musician-designer’s past work, it should come as no surprise that Middle8 is label-defyingly special.”
- Steven Stanley, STAGE SCENE LA, (Ovation recommended)

“SPACE” • “All the stuff that Stefan Marks throws in works because the cast makes it work, which means kudos go to the director, Stefan Marks. Rachel Parker, Samantha Smart and Michael Matthys nicely inhabit their characters.” – STAGE RAW, TOP TEN PICKRECOMMENDED, (4 Ovation nominations)

“HELLO” • “Riddled with Irony and dark dry humor, writer-director-performer Stefan Marks’ take on the Mars-Venus conundrum revolves around the coming together and splitting apart - not necessarily in that order - of two misfit individuals.” – LA WEEKLY “GO!”, 6 Ovation nominations, 2 wins (Playwriting, Lead Actor)

“LUCY & THE WOLF” • “His writing boils out of a complex hall of mirrors trapped between the rapidly spinning wheels of his brain and a soul given to laughing at sorrow and weeping at joy. His phrases stumble off the page like a man desperately seeking for the perfect words to tell a secret he can never share.” – ABOUT.COM / Also, LA WEEKLY, “GO!”

“THE GOOD YEAR” • “Marks’ disarming study of ambivalent male-on-male interactions shows the schoolboy beneath the man as his characters automatically pair up in summer camp buddyships that shift like sand under a self-conscious tide.” – LA WEEKLY “GO!”

“WHITE WHINE WITH ROMAN BLANCO” • “It’s the kind of humanity with which you can’t help but identify.” – BACKSTAGE WEST (CRITIC’S PICK)

“SITCOM, THE PLAY” • “Writer-director Stefan Marks’ comedy does for television sitcoms what Michael Frayn’s ‘Noises Off’ did for second-rate theatrical companies: reduces them to hilarious satirical rubble.” – LA WEEKLY “GO!”

“THE MIRROR” • "A sort of Shakespearean Stages of Man with a postmodern twist. Stefan Marks’ work follows the arc of male bonding in a challenging, always emotional way.” – THE LA TIMES, Recommended

“BASEBALL” • “[A] smartly written black comedy… Irreverent, blistering humor and a deep, dark secret.” – Steven Leigh Morris, LA WEEKLY, (PICK OF THE WEEK)
