In Fields Where We Bloom Makes Los Angeles Premiere at Hollywood Fringe Festival
An immersive solo performance and sensory ritual exploring Black women’s resilience through poetry, movement, and scent
Los Angeles, CA — In Fields Where We Bloom, a powerful immersive solo performance by creator and performer Veronique MacRae, will make its Los Angeles premiere at the Hollywood Fringe Festival this June 2026.
Blending poetry, movement, music, and scent, In Fields Where We Bloom transforms the stage into a living ritual space, inviting audiences into a deeply sensory journey through Black women’s histories, resilience, and healing.
Beginning at an ancestral altar, the performance unfolds as a guided botanical journey through seven distinct scents—from cotton and magnolia to jasmine, lavender, honey, rose, and gardenia—tracing a path from survival to divine wholeness. Rooted in both historical memory and spiritual practice, the work bridges ancestral knowledge with contemporary performance.
Developed from MacRae’s original poetry collection In a Field Full of Lavender Trees, the piece emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, when gardening became a portal for reconnecting with land, lineage, and embodied healing practices. The work explores how botanical knowledge has been preserved and passed down as survival strategy, creative resistance, and cultural memory.
Unlike traditional theatre experiences, In Fields Where We Bloom invites audiences to actively participate. Each attendee receives a handcrafted fragrance box and is guided through moments of breath, reflection, rhythm, and collective presence—transforming spectators into co-creators within the performance.
“This piece is an offering,” says MacRae. “It’s about remembering what we carry, honoring those who came before us, and allowing ourselves to experience healing not in isolation, but as something we do in community.”
By blending ritual, storytelling, and sensory engagement, In Fields Where We Bloom reimagines theatre as a space for restoration, remembrance, and transformation.
