Broads’ Word Ensemble’s mission is to make theatre by and about women, for everyone. We foster and promote diversity in entertainment and want to recognize those doing the same.
DIVERSITY IN AMERICAN THEATRE AWARD
The purpose of the award is to highlight the ever growing diversity in the ethnic and cultural make up of American society. Now more than ever, We must use our art as a way to identify our similarities instead of our differences. The Diversity in American Theatre Award is an acknowledgement and reflection of what is means to be American in the 21st Century, regardless of race, lifestyle identity, national origin, religious beliefs, or political affiliation. The award will be given to the show/individual who embodies the spirit of American Diversity in Theatre.

LARRY CORNWALL AWARD
Larry Cornwall was a musician who played the role of Alice Cooper in the tribute band Alice in Cooperland, as well as performing in several other tribute bands. He was the consummate performer, breathing life into each character he portrayed. Larry passed away from brain cancer in March 2017, and we want to honor his memory with an award dedicated to musical excellence in shows performed at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.
O FACE AWARD FOR ORGASMIC ACHIEVEMENT
Our “Orgasmic” definition:
“Great spiritual teachers throughout the ages have stated that orgasm is the closest some people come to a spiritual experience because of the momentary loss of self. Why is this true? Because with spiritual sex, you move beyond orgasm into a connection with yourself, your partner, and the divine — recognizing them all as one.”

Our Goal: We at Orgasmico Theatre Company LLC would like to single out one production or one performer to receive THE O FACE AWARD for forging a connection between artist, audience and the divine, bringing all three together in an explosive* theatrical experience that transcends convention and can only be regarded as “Orgasmic.”
**Please keep in mind this is not necessarily a sexual aspect to a show (i.e. nudity or sexuality) – so even if your show isn’t sexual in nature it can still be considered!
We will select EITHER the “Most Orgasmic Production” or the “Most Orgasmic Performer” to be the recipient of our award. The two categories:
The “MOST ORGASMIC PRODUCTION” winner could be from any fringe category (comedy, drama, solo, musical, physical theatre etc…) Direction, design and ensemble achievement are all contributing factors of a great show, but ultimately we seek the production that is more than the sum of its parts, and hurls the audience over the edge.
The “MOST ORGASMIC PERFORMER” is a mad priest/priestess who seduces the audience, unites them intimately with the character they are playing, and ultimately brings the whole theatrical ritual to an unforgettable climax.

Rogue Machine values world and west coast premieres of new plays that examine contemporary culture, reflect diverse points of view and engage the community – especially when they create dialogue that resonates after the curtain closes.

In the spirit of Short & Sweet’s international short play competition, we’re awarding the best in short theater at this year’s Hollywood Fringe.

The ShoWorks Don’t Wait. Create! Award celebrates writers and creators who develop their own opportunities by producing original content and pushing the creative envelope from “page to stage.”
Because after all, actors want to act, not wait to act – that makes you a waiter! :)
SOARING SOLO ARTIST AWARD
On behalf of the Soaring Solo LLC community, Jessica Lynn Johnson, Bryan Rasmussen, & the Whitefire Theatre Sherman Oaks, we would like to honor one solo theatre artist who truly exemplifies what it means to soar solo in a one person play via their solo theatre performance technique, writing prowess, and overall theatricalization of story & promotion (technical genius, creative staging, marketing savvy, etc). This talented individual will receive a physical award as well as official selection for 1 FREE performance in the LARGEST Solo Theatre Festival on the West Coast, the 2018 Whitefire Theatre SOLO FEST in Sherman Oaks.
THE DUENDE DISTINCTION
The Vagrancy produces work with that ineffable something, duende. A duende is a fairy- or goblin-like mythological creature from Iberian, Latin American and Filipino folklore. As Federico Garcia Lorca uses the term, it equates the fairy to a realm of being that has a heightened state of emotion, expression, and authenticity. It’s the spirit of evocation, it’s what gives you chills when you listen to a beautiful piece of music.

The Encore Producer Awards represent the best of the Hollywood Fringe selected by venue producers, based on artistic merit and commercial potential. The extensions immediately follow the HFF2017 and run through July in participating fringe venues. Shows receive valuable extensions giving them the opportunity for additional audience, press, awards and extensions.
Past winners have gone on to further extensions in LA, around the country and the world.
Some of these productions included Pulp Shakespeare, Pokemusical, Sunny Afternoon, My Penis in and Out of Trouble, Bad Arm, The Birthday Boys, Take Me To the Poorhouse, The Devil and Billy Markham, I am Google, Who Loves You Baby and Meet & Greet.
THE INKWELL PLAYWRIGHT'S PROMISE AWARD
The Inkwell Theater Development LAB is excited to present the third annual Playwright’s Promise Award at the 2017 Hollywood Fringe Festival. The Playwright’s Promise Award recognizes the writer of a Fringe production. It is based on the play itself, not necessarily the production.
THE LA FPI MOST WANTED AWARD
Awarded to venues with 50% or more works by female playwrights staged during HFF17.
THE RIPEST SHOW
Cherry Poppins Productions holds taking your audience on the ride of their life as the most important part of your performance. We stand behind our original goal of immersive theatre that drags the audience into the show themselves. Not always by literally dragging them onto the stage, but by taking them away from the real world in such a strong way that said audience member forgets they are sitting in a “show”. We can’t wait to award these people with they’re golden cherries but also an extension of their show at Three Clubs which the Cherries book!
THE SCREAMIEST
Recognizing excellence in live staged horror themed entertainment.
THE SPIRIT OF THE FRINGE, NEVER IN A BOX AWARD
This award is awarded to an original production that embodies the original idea of the “fringe.” To be on the fringe of normalcy means a production that is brave, exciting, risk-taking, and “never in a box.” This winner will be the most fringiest, most daring, and most compelling show at the festival. Past winners included, a mime/clown duet who seeked flight even though they had no plane, an interactive ensemble that did all they could to “get to know you,” an entrancing holiday children’s song that continuously hit you over the head with the idea of owning a hippopotamus, and a behind the scenes look at one of today’s most loved theme parks. Who will be next?
THE UNLEASHED AWARD
The Unleashed Award is designed to acknowledge and celebrate productions that best exemplify the values outlined in Theatre Unleashed’s mission: to come together as one in order to create truly remarkable theatre with a fresh, thought-provoking approach to original or established works. We will be offering one award to an ensemble production.
This year we, along with ACME Comedy, will also be offering the Tracey Collins Funny Girl Award. We all knew Tracey as a rather fearless force on stage, who bravely took risks and found the funny in places we didn’t expect. She could carry a scene when needed, or deftly share an ensemble moment just as easily, all while connecting with audiences in a way that made them love her – and made them laugh. In addition to her work with Theatre Unleashed and ACME Comedy, she loved acting in and attending Fringe shows. So together, we’d like to honor her memory by recognizing a female performer who demonstrates Tracey’s spirit in a strong comedic performance at The Hollywood Fringe Festival.
*PLEASE NOTE: This award will be announced online before the awards ceremony and we will arrange to meet with the winner to present the award and take photos. It will not be part of the Unleashed Award announcement on stage. *
TIP YOUR 2CENTS AWARD FOR DISTINCTIVE VOICES
The Tip Your 2Cents Award seeks a distinctive artistic voice, one that has injected their own “2Cents” and innovative vision into their Fringe production. This voice sheds a new light for audiences and inspires unique interpretation.
