Qualifications

Any HFF production presenting a work of new musical theatre. All songs must be original music with original lyrics. If the work has been produced before, its first public presentation should not have been more than 2 years ago.

Methodology

Our award is not an evaluation of the show’s book. Rather, aligned with the ALNM mission, we would select winners based on the strength of the musical songwriting.

Our focus is on technique, creativity and innovation in the development of a writing team’s music and lyrics. Ultimately, it’s about effective storytelling within the mini-cosmos of individual songs and the writers’ ability to effectively express that storytelling through a consistent, intentional aesthetic.

Reward

Our prize for the winning writing team is a featured set of their new music (~2 songs) at a future A Little New Music concert. The engagement would occur within 12 months of HFF, specific songs to be mutually agreed to between writers and production team.
