I was fighting back tears by the end! At first I thought Heather was merely going to run through a list of her 30+ jobs but nope, I was wrong. The story she ended up telling was one that touched my heart and left me dreaming. Through her expert characterization and her courage to be 100% vulnerable in front of her audience, Heather took us through the twists and turns and tumults of her life that crescendoed in a burst of awe inspiring hope. A great play for anyone who has every felt a little lost in life...you'll leave feeling as if anything is possible and that your dreams are definitely within your reach!... full review

I can see why Heather was hired so many times--she's charismatic, capable, and extremely likable as an employee and a performer. She shifts easily in and out of countless characters in a clear and precise narrative that moves quickly. I sat in delighted anticipation for the next job (highlighted expertly by the use of slides and a dinging sound)and the hilarious situations that would arise with each new opportunity. The ending was surprising and moving--it took me off guard at just how deeply invested I was in her story. Well done. ... full review

Through her life and 30+ jobs, Heather Dowling allows us to join her story, and see many of our own day to day struggles - only with a lot more chutzpah, candor, sheer number and entertainment value. She’s able to go from OMG ironic to heartbreaking in a flash, but is always there to give you hope for what will come next. And I do hope what comes next is amazing. Unemployed. Finally. is so wonderful, I am afraid it will mean Heather will get a job. But one she actually wants. Congratulations!... full review

"Unemployed. Finally." is entertaining, funny, and surprisingly moving. At the heart of the play is Dowling, whose multi-character, multi-layered performance is nothing short of inspiring and courageous. I found myself absorbed in the journey, along for the ride, and touched with emotion throughout. This is a truly wonderful play.... full review

Heather Dowling's one woman show is amazing! She effortlessly guides the audience on a wild ride of searching for, forgetting and finding once again her dream. The endless parade of jobs highlight her bad decisions, erstwhile relationships, and geographic instability with a wicked sense of humor, brutal honesty and heart felt vulnerability that brings tears to your eyes while rolling you in the aisles! I enjoyed this show immensely and recommend it highly with great confidence!... full review

I smile as I write this... Heather Dowling is such an effective, relatable, and FUNNY storyteller. The thread is clear: a woman's journey from a life seemingly composed of digressions (very entertaining and sometimes moving ones) to a place of excited focus, bursting with potential energy. Heather plays a huge variety of characters whose physical and vocal nuances are varied and distinctive. Strung throughout each phase of her life, however dissatisfying or distracting or potentially heartbreaking, there is this sense of optimism and forward momentum. The show's energy will carry you from job to job until you arrive at the namesake of the show. And you will leave inspired by her journey... And grinning at how much fun it was to get there.... full review

Wow! Heather's different characters and voices kept me laughing and smiling throughout. Her unusual story had me thinking the entire time. I loved the section on the NAVY. I won't spoil it for you but as someone who never served I can respect her service while at the same time laughing at her realization of what that meant for her at the time. You can tell that Heather put in the work as she seamlessly transitioned between so many people, jobs, and locations that it is a miracle she can keep them straight. The audience never gets lost because as a storyteller she keeps just enough in front to pull them along. Can't wait to hear about more adventurous from this talented actress! ... full review

I loved loved LOVED this show! I meant to write a review right when I got home from the show on June 27th, but it's been a crazy couple of weeks. As I think about what to write, I'm struck about how in my memory it feels like I watched a fully produced play with a cast of about 15 characters (albeit characters that all looked like Heather Dowling), In reality, it was a basic black box theatre featuring a one-woman show. This just goes to show how good this show was and how talented its writer/performer is. Without giving anything away, she owns this stage for an hour and portrays several very distinct characters from her life. I particularly enjoyed when these characters interact not only with Heather -- but also with other characterizati... full review
