SHAKESLESQUE (To Thine Own Cherry Be True)

The most fun I have had at the Fringe - maybe even in my life. Smart, witty, sexy (sooooo sexy) and hilarious. These performers dance, sing and act with aplomb. Complicated dance numbers - especially on such a small stage - are performed with precision and grace. This show just blew me away. Flawless. And just when you think it can't get any better, it does. ... full review

Chateau Rene.

A moving portrait of two characters confronting mortality, loyalty and dependence. While the play itself is engaging and well-written, it really was the tender and fierce performances of both actors that touched me the most. Two nuanced performances from virtuoso actors, with diametrically opposed characters - one trying to speed into the future and one seeking refuge in the past. These characters charmed me, balancing organic comedic moments while grappling with betrayals of the body and time. F... full review

Thugnadian's: Thug in the Sun tour.

Thugnadian's: Thug in the Sun Tour is as hilarious as it is original. It combines a great concept, astute satire, an understated yet confident performance and sharp lyrics and perfectly executes them all. Creating a play out of a bizarre, uncomfortable power-point seminar is pure genius - made even better by not relying solely on the conceit but rather using it as a starting point for deeper satire and comedy. Great show! ... full review

This is one of the best shows I've seen in the Fringe. Excellent writing, excellent performance. I loved it. It reminded me of The Fever by Wallace Shawn - that's how both literary and theatrical the text is. Deftly examining the bizarre dichotomies of modern life such as loneliness in a crowded city, alienation within the forced intimacy of small living spaces and yearning to connect while desperately seeking solitude. I want to see it again. ... full review

A beautiful and moving show based on a mesmerizing conceit. The very premise is reason enough to see this show, but the execution of the movement and touching portrayals make it even better. Thoroughly adored this show.... full review

Trixie: The Musical

This show is profound, tender and brilliantly funny. It gives voice and song to a swath of mental illnesses through irresistible characters, all under the "care" of the bent but well-meaning Trixie, and it does so with sparkling humor and deep pathos. Insights are offered, but are rendered with enough subtlety and complexity, that I have been thinking about this show since I saw it three days ago. I want to see it again, I want to think about it more. I suspect Emily Decker is on to something th... full review

A great show. An excellent cast and fluid direction give a vibrant life to this wonderful script. The stories of two separate couples are deftly woven together, the narratives both expertly parceled out, building to a dramatic and satisfying conclusion where the characters from the two different stories finally interact. ... full review

Human Hothouse: The Aftershow

Great, great script performed by incredibly talented comedic actors. Like holy shit this show is so funny it made me angry and jealous that I didn't write it. And that is not an easy thing for me to admit. I was blown away by all the performances, but Katie Streeter's performance as Cadence, her subtly blossoming drunkenness coupled with her blinding narcissism, was a stand out. As was Jayden Lund's turn as Max (heh heh) the pretentious blowhard in the Kevin Smith-esque jersey. ... full review

Inventive, acerbic and theatrical. This show combines great short plays with an innovative conceit for a rewarding hour of wise cautionary tales that are, sadly, needed in our current political clime. Awesome work by the cast, too. Thank you!... full review
