Incredibly raw, emotional storytelling that delves deeply into the psyche of the character, Em, as she grapples with being a woman in modern society. While the story is a brutally honest recollection so specific to the character playing it out, it also feels like a collective story almost every woman can see themselves reflected in.
The theatre was, at times, completely silent; a simultaneous collective breath held, as we watched the familiar story play out despite desperately hoping that it wouldn’t. Writer/actor Everleigh Brenner’s performance was heart-wrenchingly powerful, with the brutal and delicate story held strongly by the incredible direction by Maria Cristina Petitti. Additionally, the projection and sound design integrated seamlessly with the performance and emphasised Everleigh’s already powerful stage presence.
The show made me want to reflect on my own time as a young woman and what I put up with without saying anything, and the silent struggle that so many women are facing around me every day.
Incredible show!! 💜

My overall impression
An incredible tour-de-force piece exploring the intricacies of a woman living in modern society. Funny, heartbreaking, and at times horrific, but brutally honest, open and raw, Brave Face is a story that simultaneously reflects one woman and every woman all at once.
