You hear the word 'genius' tossed around a lot - but in the case of Abby Schachner, it's actually accurate. Attendees from last year's fringe will recall her solo show, Schachner vs. Schachner, an unbelievable - yet absolutely true story - of Abby's most unique childhood and family. This year's offering might be a trickier sell, 'A Show featuring poems for children' as I heard one person 'try' to describe it. Even as a huge fan, I have to say, I took pause. But now I'm ashamed of that pause, and I'm so glad that logic overtook me when I figured, 'but ABBY created it.....' because it's nothing less of brilliant. And you find yourself so fascinated by the mind who created it, and so drawn in by the intoxicatingly charismatic presence of this... full review

It meant much for you to share - But it meant more to see and care about U and yours, and M E and mine, to laugh and cry about boys and vines, how childhood’s entwined with spoken glass. We learned sometimes, one must be an ass. Oh, I loved your show, dearest Abby, It was amazing, your work’s not shabby! I cannot wait to see some more, to laugh, and cry and perhaps abhor the crazy things you'll show and speak, The mess you’ll make, the joys you’ll squeak. Thank you, dear Abby. Thank U, dear Ab B.... full review

I loved it I loved it I loved it I loved it. I was expecting something more... snide? Cynical? Instead I ended up at this stripped-down, beautiful piece, and I've been thinking about it often since. Go. Go now. Don't see the other thing you were going to see during that time slot; see this instead. ... full review

Abby Schachner follows her terrific show from last year’s Fringe festival with an equally well-crafted work of wonder. Inspired by children's storytelling, this delightful performance is full of tales and rhymes that stun an audience throughout. Her collection of alphabet letter poems and stories are hilarious and relatable, delivered through Abby’s comical characters and clever songs. Please enjoy true creativity in this festival while you can! ... full review

Abby's fractured fairy tales told in rhyming couplets and wildly alliterative songs based on letters suggested by the audience were clever, funny, and joyous. She is an energetic and magnetic performer who combines some meticulously staged pieces with improv and off-the-cuff observations. See this show! ... full review

Such a wonderful show that made the adult kid in me want to get up on stage w/ Abby and sing! Abby takes on an amazing journey through the adult child's inner sanctum with beautiful songs, rhymes, and of course the alphabet! My favorites: the hag and the prince, and the princess who wore jeans! Luv luv luv them and want to hear them again! A must see........ full review

I believe Abby Schachner is brilliant. I was awestruck by her when she appeared at the Write Club at the Bootleg and have been following her ever since. Her love of language is abundantly self-evident, and her wordplay is mesmerizing. She is a true original, and one of LA's best-kept secrets. ... full review

Having seen Abby's work before, I knew the show would be a good one, but I worried about my expectations being met. I mean, after she dazzled last year in an autobiographical show that explored the depths of some disturbing topics while managing to keep her audience in stitches and positive spirits... After that, how could a silly show called "u and me and my best friend p" really cut it? Well, comrades, Abby not only reached the bar she set with last years show, she grabbed the bar, did a pull up and flung herself over to the other side While wearing homemade dragon arms. U and Me is incredibly well written - Abby takes us through a playground of finely crafted verses, ingeniously using literary devices-- alliteration, puns, etc. ... full review

I was glad that I ordered a ticket in advance because the small room was packed. I guess the word is getting out about Abby Schachner. I saw last year's "Schachner vs. Schachner" and liked it a lot. Abby's talent as a writer and performer was so apparent. Now, having seen "U and Me and My Best Friend P," I think she has a kind of genius (and I don't throw around the g word). I mean, who does this and makes it work? These sort of humor-laced fairytale poems. But they are so well-crafted that they seem like they have always been lying around just waiting to be picked up. The place was rocking with laughter from the outset. And then, once or twice, from nowhere, a little misty-eyed moment. So. Well-written: check. Fabulous lithe and livel... full review
