A great collection of one-acts. The cast was terrific, and the writing was top notch. The first one-act "Ten Minutes to Go" was funny and engaging throughout as we peeled back more information on the damaged souls in the piece. Jerry Chappell brings an enthusiasm to his role that is at first infectious, and eventually moving as the veneer cracks and we get a peek at his character's hurt and anger. Mindy Warick ably conveys a likability that's touched, but not drowned, with uncertainty and guilt. "Ducks in Winter" was my favorite piece as a married couple tries to add a spark to their increasingly bland relationship. Routine, the silent killer, gets center-stage in this piece, and I found the couple to be so true, and sad, and likeable... full review

"...Awkward Pauses" is easily one of the best shows I've seen so far at Fringe this year. And so you know going in, it's actually 3 Plays for the price on one, so that's not too shabby, either. "Sex, Death and...Cheeseburgers?" is partially apropos to the evening, but they left out suicidal roller coasters, park-bench fornication, the evils of Indian food and about a dozen other things that culminate in a very entertaining bit of theater. There are several other reviews that give details of the shows, so I won't stoop to redundancy here. And I think probably the less you know going into it, the better. Just let the touching, hilarious and often "awkward" moments they've created wash over you. You'll thank me later ;)... full review

Awkward Pauses is a total hoot. Starting off with Evan Baughfman's very funny cosmic death rattle with Mindy Warick and Jerry Chappel strapped in for their ride to hell. Chappell's manic hoots and nervous little boy chops were very funny to watch, and a perfect counterpart to Warick's doubt-filled, mincing ambivalent death wishing. These two were a delicious comic duo. Then Susan Marlowe and Tony Christopher pulled off the perfect awkard sex-in-the-park pas-de-dieux - funny, effective, physical theater in a wonderful domestic love send-up by Itai Grunfeld. Funny but a bit less effective was The Middle American. We all probably agree with the sentiments, and the acting was journeymanlike (nice to see Christ cast, discreet & respectful) but ... full review

First of all, I don't know this company or these people, so when I say I loved it, I speak the truth. I laughed out loud, and often. The writing is sharp, the acting is spot-on, and even the scene changes were done efficiently and professionally. The common theme of "Awkward Pauses" in the three short plays, worked well for me, and even though the sets were simple, they worked. When I walked in and saw the roller-coaster car, which later turns into... something else (no spolier alert here!), I was really impressed. I hope these guys extend. They should and they deserve to. This is my favorite show at the Fringe so far!... full review

3 well-imagined pieces with distinctive writing styles. I enjoyed the last 2 more than the first. The females dead-pan delivery in the second piece heightened the awkwardness and humor of being sitting ducks in their own relationship. I love a good, all-american cheeseburger, as much as I like the third piece, which is a religious and political satire, showcasing the dilusional hysteria that may arise when one takes these beliefs in excess and resists anything new. All the pieces have a nice twist at the end, but I found the opener to be a little one note, despite the unraveling of info that led these characters to this place. I liked learning about their pasts, but it needed more levels. I also found myself thinking that the ride shou... full review

3-of-a-Kind doing what they do best with 3 original 1-act shows from local playwrights, actors and directors. You'll get a multi-faceted ride through comedy, dark future, sex-farce and social commentary, all in one night. The actors are great, and they perform with verve and passion. Tech is your basic lights up lights down kind of ordeal, though there are some very good sound cues (especially in the first piece). Overall an enjoyable addition to the Fringe Oeuvre. ... full review

Awkward Pauses is a well thought and well played piece of theater. It fits right into the Fringe Festival! It's always a difficult thing to basically put on 3 separate plays in one, but they pull it off flawlessly! It comes in at exactly an hour, and yet goes by so quickly your wondering why it ended! It's quick, to the point, and a roller coaster ride...literally. It opens with a roller coaster ride! So, there's no excuse not to stop by and check it out!... full review

Over-all, the simple sets were nice. I didn't mind the lighting either. One thing that I found confusing was that for a company called "Three of a Kind" it was strange that the selected plays didn't appear to have a common thread. It actually took me out of it a little toward the end trying to figure out what that common link might have been. The first play was nice, I enjoyed the different characters' own brand of "nervous." I kept rooting for the girl to get out of the roller coaster, but wasn't disappointed with the ending. Again, the simple set was nice, and the stark lighting was fitting. The second one was uncomfortable. I kind of get the feeling that "uncomfortable" was what they were trying to get out of it. That being said, I f... full review

the shows were fantastic! I don't remember the last time I laughed so much. I am only sad that I didn't make before the last performance because I can't take more friends to see it again! I mean, what's not to love: a futuristic suicide roller coaster, awkward sex ON STAGE in the dead of winter in a public park, and death by cheeseburgers! (And let's not forget a cameo by Jesus!) So awesome!!... full review
