In The Kitchen

I saw the "Cooking with Gas" rotation. I was thoroughly entertained throughout. There were also several great actors here. I don't usually go to see these sorts of plays- I don't know what sort exactly, perhaps comedy/drama that doesn't have some ~personally~ triggering hook in the description. But I definitely enjoyed these better than others; I was always engaged, and some things turned out personal anyhow. As was mentioned elsewhere, “Lemonade With a Twist” and “I Am That I Am” did have sol... full review

The Werewolves of Hollywood Blvd: A Damnable Rock Musical

I love rock musicals, and this one did not disappoint with its entertainment- beyond a couple sound issues that could benefit from a longer set-up time, but that's easily forgiven on the whole. Orgasmico always does a good job. Werewolves aren't usually my thing, but the paranormal is, and some vampires even made an appearance in a great song with great metaphor. Of course, this entire show was an exploration of the metaphors and such that create these paranormal persons. I hadn't read the rev... full review

NIGHTMARICOMIO

If movement and drums aren't your thing, don't come to a show like this- but since I love them, I am grateful to have seen it. Even my friend, who never sees this stuff, liked it. It reminded me of ancient, primal theatre- I feel that is where the plot may even have started, but as for plot, I think everyone may have a different interpretation of that. Mine had it go from that ancient place and wend its way up through humanity, as we try to evolve. I was also trying to interpret the costumes w... full review

God of Abraham

A couple reviewers said "this is not a show for the religious" or "not for the faint of heart or Catholics", but as a Catholic, and eternal student of ancient languages and theology, who celebrates many religions, I disagree. Sure, there are always people out there waiting to be offended- but, since I'm religious, I love religious topics! People need to take more risks like this, with the material they used, and the hilarious humor. I laughed more during this show than in any play or movie I can ... full review

Philosophy in the Boudoir

~Possible Sex Act and Political Spoilers Ahead~ I'm very glad I went out of my way to see this play, and on its closing night, when it must have been its most polished. Some say it was porn going for shock value- but this was not the case; as others would say, it was tame. Except for a few actions, this was a few degrees more docile than anything else I might see on a Saturday night- after all, I have been known to frequent clubs named after Sade himself. I forget that not everyone is used to ... full review

EXORCISTIC: the Rock Musical Parody Experiment

Michael Shaw Fisher told me to bring my demons- I was happy to do so- and my mother insisted I bring a rosary for myself and my date. She was very surprised that a younger generation wouldn't be too scared of The Exorcist to make a musical parody. I guess you could say I'm more one to follow a bit of very pertinent advice- "Make peace with your demons!" I loved this musical. The rock soundtrack was quite pleasant, and wow, what a surprisingly marvelous and powerful voice on Laura Sperrazza! I ... full review

Love Actually Isn't

This was Dan Johnson's first production, and I was impressed with how well he put it on. He got some pretty good and varied acting talent, some good sound design, and nice set pieces- plus there's his real talent, which is his writing. It was great to finally see it brought to life after hearing so much about it for so long. It all came together nicely; I enjoyed the plays very much. There were a few things I would change- the lighting and the set changes as mentioned, a bit more direction for so... full review

No Boundarys

This show has good atmosphere in parts. The beginning was a little slow and a little hard to get into, and I was not sure exactly what the "point" was, not that there needs to be one. He talked about his father a lot, which I also didn't necessarily get, but it was interesting to hear about a father so much on Father's Day, and consider my own relationship to my own father. My favorite bits were when he touched on the oneness of life, and the energy that we all are, as he was tripping- I spoke... full review

Confessions of the World's Worst Missionary

I really enjoyed myself at this show. Lina does show us the world of, well, well-off white girls learning about the problems of Africa and dealing with it: And that's not bad. It's the sort of theme I've thought about as for myself, and what can I do for the world- and what I've that about when my priest says we have it so well here in L.A. with our designer bags- and I enjoyed that great suitcase Lina used as a prop! And yet, there's such an imbalance in the world- and what can we do about it... full review

Clowns, Goddesses & Tough Guys

Odd how someone managed to look at everything from all the wrong angles... maybe I'm biased in loving this show because I do know James, and we've helped each other with our shows, and I do get to see all the other facets of this story. It was by no means thrown together- although he did throw the script out- because shows are often more fun just improvised. That way he's able to just speak with us as a real person in the moment and in truth. I have watched James put this show together and I... full review
