Gabriel Gutierrez

Originally from Chicago, Gabriel is an adult adoptee, street dancer, reconnecting P’urhépecha, founder of MoFundamentals, artist-activist dedicated to highlighting the resiliency of the foster and adoptee community. His work centers around disseminating his knowledge of street dance in conversation with lessons of manhood; experiencing houselessness; being his own financial safety net; and the intricacies of the foster care experience.

His adoptee-led arts program, MoFundamentals, is focused on transforming the trauma of foster care into a celebration of resiliency. Through MoFundamentals, his mission is to create spaces for youth to grieve, process, heal and speak about their truth in foster care– filling in the gap of what is needed to transform and abolish this traumatic system.

His contributions at the intersection of street dance, arts education, healing practices, and foster care advocacy have earned him invitation to train at intensives hosted by Rennie Harris, a nomination for the ACTIVATE Arts Advocacy Fellowship to represent Los Angeles City District 1, and a recruitment to pilot reentry programming funded by the California Arts Council.
