What I liked

It’s just a lovely performance by an artist who understands how to use every tool that we have available to tell a story to an audience. Every design choice. Every piece of business. Every lighting change. The shadow work. It’s understanding of stillness. and silence. It’s breath.
It’s simple grace.

What I didn't like

I wanted more – this was thirty minutes. This accomplished actor could have held us for in her world and our common memory for much longer.

My overall impression

I loved this show. I jumped out of my seat to applaud.
I was chastised by a fellow audience member who didn’t share my opinion – it wasn’t edgy enough, it didn’t have teeth. I suppose and thats why I love this piece. It’s just a story. A story told with love and care and craft and it’s not trying to be anything else. It’s pure, it’s warm, we love this performer from the moment she greets us. She connects, she welcomes us into a memory, asking us to go some place in our minds and then brings us into her world, her memory, her story and she is specific from start to finish. Her perfect vintage dress, her specific economy of motion, her perfect understanding of stillness and the perfect understanding of what she wants her story to be with all its simple magic of grace and light. It’s simple and beautiful surprises of shadow and light and puppetry and it’s not trying to be anything else. It doesn’t need teeth.
