Everything. With just a single chair and a glass of water as his companions, you feel like you (and the rest of the audience) are hearing a close friend share their most intimate secrets, fears, and failures. You never sit in judgment of his past, but you empathize and root for the charming waif all along the way. Nick is your brother, your friend, your classmate, your coworker, who is doing his level best to get better and do better, while acknowledging his slip ups along the way. You will find yourself rooting for him during the show, and for the rest of your life.
What I didn't like
Nothing.
My overall impression
Brave, bold storytelling at its finest, Nick Pupo: Addicted has it all. Pupo, a consummate performer, lays his history bare on stage displaying pure vulnerability and hilarious comedic rejoinders inviting the audience to empathize and laugh at his pain all at once. His truly remarkable, and oft times suspenseful, stories are at turns shocking and slapstick making his daily victories over addiction that much more rewarding. Buckle up, you’re in for an incredible ride.
