What I liked

I went into Truly Outrageous as a a Jem and the Holograms fan, not really knowing how it could be translated into a musical, but from the minute the lights went down and Jem and the Holograms exploded onto the stage I knew it was going to be an amazing show.

The cast were phenomenal, everyone felt so perfect for their roles that it really elevated the performance; and Becca McGlynn’s score really pulled together Brandie June’s incredible concept.

As I was sitting there, I lamented over the fact that I rarely see a queer musical, let alone one written by women. Truly Outrageous really filled a need that I didn’t even know I had; and that seeing queer, femme relationships in musicals is something that I absolutely need more of!!

My overall impression

A wondefully camp, glittery explosion of fun with a well-written story, amazing costumes and catchy music!
