What I liked

Character commitment! I truly felt like, for the most part, everyone fully dove into their character, whether it be, serious, awkward, angry, or comedic. As a performer, I love theatre because it’s an opportunity to be “bigger” than day-to-day life. While watching theaters, I’m not looking for super subtleties, I’m looking for the show! If I want subtlety, I’ll stay home and watch TV or a movie. I’m into distinct, thoughtful, committed “take up space” choices. Even if they are quirky, or a choice I wouldn’t have necessarily made, I’ll always appreciate commitment to the characters, and I felt like this show had that.

What I didn't like

As much as I enjoyed the show, there were a few things that I wanted from the overall experience.

1. From a tech standpoint, there were a few lighting miscues that took you “out of the story”. In one scene, it so noticeable it became comedic. Admittedly there are plenty of twists and turns and there were probably a crazy amount of cues, but that’s something that needs improvement.

There are “flashback” scenes that come throughout the show ,but they don’t happen with enough distinction. It’s not a huge stage so it’s difficult to immediately notice. It takes a second to catch on to the fact it’s a flashback. Maybe an intense lighting switch is needed to help the audience immediately understand “Oh, this is a flashback scene.”

As I said before, I love character commitment, the one thing I felt could have been a little more committed was the romantic relationship between the two leading ladies. I want the chemistry to be so great that I wonder “Are they together in real life?!” It felt more like they were good friends.

Oh and the venue was nice but very cold! Bring a light jacket. Not necessarily a thing you can improve, but prepare for it.

My overall impression

Wow! I must admit, I haven’t heard of this story before so I’m approaching this with a “was I entertained” point of view. And the short answer is, absolutely! I heard quite a few people buzzing about the show immediately afterwards. People discussing the twists and turns, lifts and shifts of the show, and I really would recommend!
