My overall impression

From the opening moment there was a call and response with the performers and the audience…this was like being at a Rock Concert. Wild, intimate, over the top, funny, edgy, sure-footed, soft, sexual, crazy, rapid-fire, nerdy, and that is as much the audience as it is the performers. Throughout the show people got so caught up in what was going on they started talking to the characters. I haven’t ever seen that in the theatre, always at concert or a comedy show…think the audience wanted to be on stage with the performers. I loved each character. It was nice to see a show where the characters actually drive the story, as opposed to being just plot devices. The writing was excellent. I was very impressed with the direction…this director and writer (he did the Barking Pig (?) last year in the festival, he is very good) The arc of the show surprised me. It went where I wasn’t anticipating. There is WIT in the songs. There is bombast in the songs. There is love for the characters in the songs…I was sure this was going to be a bag of stereotypes…but the lyricist and the director did not settle…the lyricist was impressive. The Lyricist, Writer, Director and Cast challenged the audience, swept us along…and we at the end of what I though was a surprisingly short show, were willing to carry them into the lobby. The entire audience stood around the looby with loopy smiles on their faces. For that moment we had community. Go see this show. There was slight sound glitches the night I went, but it didn’t stop the audience from howling with laughter, anticipating laughs and being swept along by the wit of the characters. Then the entire audience stood and give it a standing ovation…and the actors kept right on working it. Great work! Go see this show! This show is why there is a Fringe.
