What I liked
Teruko is absolutely charming, hilarious and admirably vulnerable. Daredevils take more precautions than this fantastic performer. Fearless. The heavy subject matter expressesed in this powerful piece is incredibly juxtaposed by the indestructible spirit of Teruka Nakajima. Unflinchingly honest, she presents her life to us completely unbound. It felt like a breath of fresh air in outer space. I can not overstate how impactful this show is. Just see it. People were weeping and embracing each other in the lobby and on the sidewalk after the show ended. I’ve never felt like an audience was more deserved. You must bear witness to an undeniable star breaking our hearts and putting the pieces back together again in a beautiful life-affirming dance. It is important to note the fragility from which strength is gained. This is a confrontation of truth and confirmation of humanity. It is urgent. Experience it while you can.
What I didn't like
Perhaps tissues can be made available to the audience. Both for the tears of sadness and laughter.
My overall impression
What can I say? This was an absolute gut punch. Both because I laughed hard and felt the emotional weight of this woman’s trials. I hesitate to use the word inspirational as it is far overused and underfelt, but suffice it to say this show moved me in a significant way.
