I’d lose the one shout out to ‘Frozen 2’ – though over time, it might not matter. I’m just not a fan of that movie, and invoking it with a single line took my mind off THIS story, reminding me how much I disliked Disney’s all-over-the-place sequel.
My overall impression
Wonderful! I wish it had been twice as long! Charming, energetic and witty performances by the whole cast. It’s clear Shapiro loves the fantasy genre, stirring a host of beloved ingredients into his cauldron to conjure a fresh, new stew. The direction and choreography are inventive and always broaden the scope of the story upon its canvas. The themes of aspiration and persistence are absolutely terrific, resonant and very welcome and the hero’s guiltless personality was a breath of fresh air. Bravo!
