Set in 1966, Albert Stokes, a soft-spoken insurance firm employee in South London, still lives with his overprotective mother. His office buddies convince him to escape her demands for a night out to the firm owner’s house party, where an unfortunate mishap will reshape his life as he knows it. Decades later, the social themes in Pinter’s early dark comedy are as resonant as ever.
Originally produced as a teleplay for the B.B.C Third Programme and later for ITV’s ‘Armchair Theatre’.
