What I liked

Aside from the tremendously funny dialog and scene set-ups, I was constantly wondering why – why did he do that, why didn’t she say something, why is nobody noticing the insanity – often mirrored by the puzzlement of the main character whose motivation still eludes me. And to be clear, I loved that! If you are tired of being spoon-fed morality and even comedy I think you will love it too. There is much here that we are not meant to understand, but that is the point of magical realism isn’t it?

What I didn't like

In the end there are some attempts to wrap up relationships and subtexts that have been running through the show, which I felt did not land with as much punch as they might have. I think the show could benefit from a bit of trimming, perhaps bringing it closer to an hour in length, but I was not bored or distracted at any point.

My overall impression

A hilarious and thought-provoking romp, gorgeously staged and deliciously acted. Fans of magical realism will be especially satisfied as well as mystified. Nothing is explained or accomplished in almost Brechtian fashion, which is as refreshing as drinking hot water with a slice of lemon after a heavy meal. After the laughter is done, you are left with so many questions…
