DARK COMEDY SHINES LIGHT ON HOMELESS IN NEW KID ON THE BLOCK AT FRINGE
May 22, 2018
Los Angeles, CA— May, 2018– Could you be homeless for a week? That’s the question comedy actor/writer John Patrick Daly asks in New Kid on the Block, his play about self-discovery found in the helpless and hopeless situation of living on the streets of LA. Making its world premiere at the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2018, the production will preview on Saturday, June 2 at 8 p.m. at the Actors Company Other Space Theater, 916 N. Formosa Avenue in West Hollywood.
Daly has crafted a tight 30-minute tale of transformation in a fast-paced multimedia show using illuminating projections, sound effects and clever use of the actors as set pieces. The story revolves around Nicholas; disenchanted with his life and estranged from his family, he pretends to opt out by live streaming himself becoming a “bum” for a week. Reality quickly takes over when he realizes that the experience may be more than he bargained for, creating a lot of laughable, touching, yet cringe worthy moments.
