What I liked

The chemistry between the two actors who played the mother and daughter in the show was so dynamic… each actor felt so grounded, they were present for the other actor, and yet they both stood out individually. The set was simple and I loved the way they used some sort of wallpaper to put on the flats. The use of the stage was also very well done. The blocking was sharp and intentional… a well display of the struggle and power dynamics between the two female characters. And that ending!!!! OMG, it was harrowing and I was in literally tears. I also really enjoyed the performance of the neighbor! I wish she came back into the story at one point.

What I didn't like

The acting in this show was incredible but a part of me wishes it was Asian American actors. I love that the show doesn’t talk about race or gender but just about the love and trauma between two people, which means this play can create many roles for actors of many colors, shapes, and sizes. I loved this cast and the whole ensemble worked so well but it took me awhile to get hooked into the story. The first few minutes of the show felt rushed to me… I had just met these two characters and out of nowhere, things were full forced. I love that I’m thrown right into the middle of the relationship but I wanted something more. At first, it was hard for me to connect with the characters but once I got to discover more of the complexities… I was completely hooked.

My overall impression

Great performance, a touching story and a wonderful exploration into the relationship of a mother and daughter. All the cast members were spectacular and the moment at the end of the show is truly heartbreaking.
