Los Angeles, CA (April 29th, 2018) – Fans of horror, mixed-media, and local, female-led theatre will delight in the world premiere of YELLOWWALLPAPER by playwright and director Denise M. Barrett. Adapted from Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s famous 1892 feminist short story of the same name, it chronicles a young woman’s descent into madness.
Set in the 1950s America, a fragile Jane is taken to a remote Victorian house by her well-meaning doctor husband to recover from her nerves. Trapped in the attic on a rest cure for an entire summer, instead of growing well, Jane slowly loses her mind. Surrounded by torturing yellow wallpaper, she is haunted by a figure in the design who she is determined to set free. Using a blend of live action and animation, YELLOWWALLPAPER, brings Jane’s creepy psychological struggle to life on stage.
